Peceq: Mari sama-sama berdoa dan bermunajat satu hari Masjid ini akan tertegak kerana Allah S.W.T.. Takbir: AllahuAkbar!!!. 

Sebuah masjid In Syaa Allah ia dibina maka ia akan jadi bangunan keagamaan terbesar di Britain & masjid yang terbesar di Eropah! Ia seluas 7.3 hektar (close proximity to London 2012 Olympic site) yang boleh memuatkan 12,000 jemaah & berharga 300 juta pound.

Projek yang diberi gelaran 'Mega Mosque' ni pada tahun 2005. Ini adalah projek Masjid Mega.

Ia terletak di Abbey Mills, West Ham,Timur London. Ia merupakan masjid multi-functional yang mengandungi sekolah,pejabat,kemudahan belia,ruang makan yang besar & kediaman. 

Pada tahun 2005, Mangera Yvars Architects telah memenangi competition untuk membinanya. Namun pada tahun 2007, client projek ni iaitu Tablighi Jamaat (sebuah pergerakan Islam di UK) telah menukar arkitek projek ni kepada Allies & Morrison.

 

Seperti yang kita tau, masyarakat Islam disana makin bertambah & memang memerlukan ruang yang lebih luas untuk beribadat bagi menggantikan masjid sedia ada yang dah tak mampu menampung. 

Tapi projek ni mendapat bantahan & tentangan dari pelbagai pihak. Menurut www.architectjournal.co.uk ;

"Criticism from local residents, Christian groups and even Muslim leaders over the size of 

Mangera Yvars' original 7ha concept. The scheme initially proposed to accommodate up to 70,000 worshippers on a site a stone's throw from the 2012 Olympic Park. But this number was to reduced to 12,000 under new plans unveiled in February. However,it will still be the largest religious building in Britain."

Lalu pihak berkuasa tempatan iaitu Majlis Newham menangguhkan dahulu permohonan ini untuk membuat kajian. Selama bertahun-tahun pihak arkitek & client tak jemu-jemu membuat rayuan bertulis. Dan wakil Masjid Abbey Mills iaitu Abdul Sattar Shahid pernah berkata;

"In the last few years we have perhaps naively pursued options to bring our vision for a 

new mosque to fruition with those who describe themselves as friends and supporters.

We have never intended to build a mosque the size that has been suggested in the media. Our vision is for a development that enhances the area of West Ham and provides a mosque and complex that will support our work in the Muslim faith.

We regret we have inadvertently allowed our opponents the opportunity to use our own 

naivety against us. But we will now address their false and disappointing accusations 

directly and demonstrate to the community that they have nothing to fear nor oppose 

in our plans." 

Namun setelah bertahun-tahun, akhirnya pada Disember 2012 Newham Council telah 

menolak cadangan membina 'Mega Mosque' atas alasan "the proposed mosque building 

was "too big" and would have an impact on important historic buildings nearby."

Lalu terkuburlah harapan umat Islam disana untuk melihat kewujudan tempat ibadat 

mereka yang lebih privacy tanpa Islamopobhia, juga merangkap sebuah institusi yang 

bakal menyumbang sesuatu kedalam masyarakat yang kehausan nilai-nilai positif. 

Takpelah,bumi Allah ni luas. Boleh cuba kat tempat lain...

London Markaz - London Mosque Building

NRAP replaces Allies & Morrison as architects for this long-running project.

Was due to be the largest religious building in Britain and the largest mosque in Europe

Location: Abbey Mills, West Ham, east London
Site: close proximity to London 2012 Olympic site

Capacity: 12,000 seats

Newham Council have written to Tablighi Jamaat after it failed to meet a deadline to submit a masterplan for the site. Newham Council advised Tablighi Jamaat, whose temporary planning permission to operate a smaller mosque expired three years ago, that it has to stop using the mosque or face eviction and Newham Council compulsorily purchasing the land.

Architects Mangera Yvars were replaced with Allies & Morrison by Tablighi Jamaat in 2007.

The project is for a new London Markaz - a multi-functional mosque with a school, offices, dedicated youth facilities, large dining and residential accommodation.

  

Quote from Mangera Yvars Architects re this London Mosque:
"In its simplest form the spatial arrangement of a mosque is governed by the Quibla or direction of prayer to Mecca and lines of ‘Saf’ for the congregation. A mosque is a directional field and the first mosques were simply lines drawn in the sand. 

Our understanding of the mosque is drawn from ‘Hadith’ or interpretation of the Quran which we use as a methodology and the basis for the scheme. From Hadith, a mosque can be anywhere because, at the time of prayer, ‘The Whole Earth is a Mosque’

The Islamic Garden
The scheme is organized as an Islamic Garden, transposed onto modern day London. The garden consists of topographical layers of landscapes and activity. We see the Islamic Garden as a spatial narrative setting out the relationship between interior and exterior, or between zones of contemplation, ritual, ablution and congregation and prayer.

Dawat: An Invitation to Islam
Central to the propagation of Islam is the principle of Dawat or Invitation to Islam. The project has adopted the idea of ‘Dawat’ by physically and metaphorically reaching out to provide large urban connections which invite people into the building from West Ham station, The Greenway and beyond.

   

The Campus
The multiple functions of the Markaz suggest highly adaptable space. The layout of the scheme avoids compartmentalizing activity by setting up zones where programs merge and overspill.

Inflatable and Nomadic space and Islamic Geometry
The scheme considers fluctuations in visitors and usage. Spaces can be extended in peak periods through the use of inflatable structures which temporarily cover outdoor areas to provide additional prayer space.

Water, Light, Sound and Sustainability
Water, light sound and calligraphy are functional and decorative layers which describe the mosque. In the traditional mosque, the water pond in the courtyard is a requirement for abolition.

The project is intended to be a prototype for sustainability and will incorporate Wind Turbine Minarets, Tidal Power, CHP and photovoltaic technology."
