Penyelundupan ponsel ke dalam penjara mengakibatkan terjadinya berbagai tindak kejahatan oleh para narapidana.
Sejumlah tahanan di Carolina Selatan dituduh telah memeras sejumlah tentara AS dengan mengirim foto telanjang gadis-gadis muda dan kemudian meminta uang.
Menurut surat perintah penggeledahan dari penyelidik Angkatan Darat AS awal bulan ini,"narapidana yang tak terhitung jumlahnya" di seluruh negara bagian South Carolina terlibat dalam skema kejahatan itu.
Para penyelidik berusaha untuk mengakses akun email yang diyakini telah digunakan dalam transfer uang pemerasan.
Pejabat penjara menyebut, hal ini membuktikan betapa bisa sangat berbahayanya ponsel di tangan narapidana.

Menurut surat perintah yang juga diperoleh oleh BBC, para tahanan menggunakan aplikasi kencan ponsel, khususnya yang disebut PlentyOfFish, untuk menjebak para serdadu itu.
Setelah berkomunikasi melalui pesan teks beberapa hari, bahkan beberapa jam, para prajurit dikirimi gambar telanjang perempuan.
Lalu nantinya, akan datang pesan lain, yang berpura-pura merupakan ayah gadis itu yang diliputi kemarahan dan "mengatakan kepada prajurit yang dijebak bahwa gadis itu masih di bawah umur, belum berusia 18 tahun," tulis permohonan surat penggeledahan itu.
Sang ayah palsu itu lalu mengancam untuk lapor ke polisi jika tidak diberi uang, meliputi penggantian ponsel, konseling, perawatan rumah sakit, dan lain-lain.

"Sering kali korban akan membayar karena ketakutan bahwa karir mereka akan hancur (para korban adalah anggota dinas militer) oleh masalah perilaku yang tidak pantas dan ketakutan bahwa korban benar-benar percaya bahwa mereka memiliki pornografi anak," tulis surat perintah itu lebih jauh.
Komando Investigasi Kriminal Angkatan Bersenjata AS menolak memberi tanggapan mengenai surat perintah tersebut.
Para petugas telah mengidentifikasi seorang perempuan di luar penjara, yang mereka katakan bertindak sebagai 'penampung uang' yang menerima transfer dana dari para korban sebelum mengirimkannya ke rekening para penghuni penjara.
Angkatan Darat telah memperingatkan serdadunya untuk menyadari skema 'sextortion' ini dan menyarankan mereka untuk tidak menyerah pada tuntutan para penipu itu.

Lembaga Pemasyarakatan South Carolina menyebut bahwa penyelundupan telepon seluler di penjara merupakan masalah besar.
Karenanya mereka mengajukan petisi untuk diberi hak dan perangkat untuk memblokade semua komunikasi telepon seluler di dalam semua penjara negara bagian itu.
April lalu, terjadi kerusuhan di sebuah penjara South Carolina yang menewaskan tujuh orang, dan disimpulkan bahwa keributan itu dirancang dan digalang dengan menggunakan ponsel.

20 Men Convicted Of Sexually Abusing Vulnerable Girls And Jailed For 220 Years

(Independent) – Members of a grooming gang who abused vulnerable girls in Huddersfield have been jailed for a total of more than 220 years.
Three trials at Leeds Crown Court this year heard how at least 15 victims were groomed and raped in the West Yorkshire town between 2004 and 2011.
They were aged between 11 and 17 when they were “deliberately targeted” by older men and trafficked across the region.
They were lured into what they believed to be genuine relationships with abusers before being plied with alcohol or drugs and abuse, and kept silent with threats and violence.
The convictions can be revealed for the first time after a judge lifted blanket reporting restrictions on a series of linked trials.
Out of 20 men so far convicted of offences including rape, 16 have been jailed and four are awaiting sentence next month
A judge said at least one victim attempted suicide and another was seen being thrown out of a moving car outside her home, being found under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
Judge Geoffrey Marson QC said none of the men had expressed any remorse.

“The way you treated these girls defies understanding; this abuse was vile and wicked,” he told them.
“As cases of sexual abuse with which the courts have to deal, this case comes at the top of the scale.”
Ringleader Amere Singh Dhaliwal, 35, was jailed for life earlier this year and told he must serve a minimum of 18 years in prison.
Dhaliwal, who has children of his own, was convicted of 54 separate counts, including 22 rapes, involving 11 different girls.
Sentencing Dhaliwal earlier this year, the Judge Marson said: “You treated them as commodities to be passed around for your own sexual gratification and the gratification of others.
“The extent and gravity of your offending far exceeds anything which I have previously encountered.
“It was a very significant campaign of rape and other sexual abuse.
“Children’s lives have been ruined and families profoundly affected by seeing their children, over months and years, out of control, having been groomed by you and other members of your gang.”
The reporting ban was lifted by the Recorder of Leeds, Judge Guy Kearl QC, on Friday.
Tommy Robinson, founder of the far-right English Defence League, was jailed for breaking reporting restrictions on the case in May but freed on appeal.

The victims, who are now all adults, juries how they believed they were being shown genuine affection and attention as they were groomed – repeating a pattern seen in Rotherham, Oxford and other high-profile cases.
Judge Marson told the defendants that false relationships were “deliberately created to enable predatory men such as you to perpetrate gross sexual abuse for your own perverted gratification”.
One of the girls said: “They got your trust and then stuff would start happening to you and it’s just one of those things that you couldn’t get out of, it just happened.
“My mum and dad’s houses got trashed, their cars got trashed. I was constantly getting raped, beaten up.”
The men referred to each other using a series of nicknames which were also used as their monikers during the trials, including “Beastie”, “Dracula” and “Nurse”.
West Yorkshire Police said the investigation was triggered when the first victim came forward in 2013.
Detective Chief Inspector Ian Mottershaw said all victims had endured a “gruelling court process” taking over a year.
“I cannot praise them enough for their courage and tenacity in helping us secure justice for them against these defendants,” he added.
“We welcome the convictions and sentences which have been passed down throughout the year to these depraved individuals, who subjected vulnerable young children to unthinkable sexual and physical abuse.
“Child sexual exploitation is abhorrent and is one of the most important challenges facing the police. Safeguarding the vulnerable and protecting victims is West Yorkshire Police’s top priority. It is totally unacceptable and it is the responsibility of all agencies, communities and individuals to identify those responsible and help bring them to justice.”
Det Ch Supt vowed that victims will always be supported, listened to and protected, expressing hope that the case may reassure others to come forward.
Michael Quinn, of the Crown Prosecution Service, said: “The men deliberately targeted their vulnerable victims, grooming and exploiting them for their own sexual gratification.
“The men sometimes used threats and violence and plied their victims with alcohol or drugs. Throughout the years of offending, these men cared only for themselves and viewed these girls as objects to be used and abused at will.”
He praised the “immense courage” of victims, adding: “I sincerely hope the convictions of their abusers today will go some way to helping these young women to rebuild their lives. Our thoughts remain with them.”

(The Star) – DAP’s Lim Kit Siang should listen to opposition leaders who raise public concerns instead of labelling them as “cybertroopers” and “propagandists”, says MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong.
“The rakyat poking fun at Dr Maszlee Malik over the issue of black shoes and black socks indicate that they would rather see an Education Minister focusing on pressing educational matters.
“But Lim Kit Siang chose to view the collective opinion as a trap set up by cybertroopers and propagandists.
“Does providing feedback make one a cybertrooper? Why dismiss their views … when you should be listening to them?” Dr Wee said a Facebook post on Friday (Oct 19).
In a Facebook post on Friday, the DAP veteran criticised Dr Wee, saying that he, just like the top Umno leadership, was in “deep denial” and refused to admit to the international infamy of the 1MDB scandal.
The Iskandar Puteri MP further claimed that Dr Wee was trying to take the easy way instead of answering for the “deplorable state of education in Malaysia” by “by demonising and bashing Pakatan Harapan ministers and leaders like Maszlee”.
Lim was referring to Khazanah Research Institute (KRI)’s report, which stated that Malaysians who received 12 years of schooling only receive only nine years’ worth of schooling after adjusting for education quality.
Lim said the Barisan Nasional government and the leadership of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak was responsible for the slide in education standards in Malaysia.
“This was the reason for the attempt by the Najib propagandists and cybertroopers – which include Wee and MCA leaders – to divert attention from this shocking state of educational affairs by taking the offensive to demonise and bash Dr Maszlee for being concerned with trivial matters like socks and shoes,” said Lim in the posting.
Dr Wee retorted by saying that Lim should be aware that people of all races have spoken out against Dr Maszlee’s “absurd remarks”.
“There can be only one reason for him to label these people as “cybertroopers” – he hopes everyone will emulate DAP in remaining silent about the plunge in palm oil prices, Malaysia-China ties, toll abolishment, Khazanah’s bumiputra agenda, abolition of death penalty, the delay in recognising the Unified Education Certificate, the closure of non-halal stalls at the food festival in Melaka, and many other issues,” said Dr Wee.
